Topical Collection Information:

Dear Colleagues,

Risks arising from natural disasters and man-made incidents are ever-increasing. Therefore, it is essential to enhance disaster risk resilience in modern societies, not only to ensure the safety of citizens and reduce damages to critical infrastructure, but also to ensure the safety of first responders during rescue operations. Robots are been used worldwide as an effective tool for disaster response and prevention. This Topical Collection describes the latest developments in robotics applications for disaster response, recovery, and disaster preparedness. By discussing the technical advances and presents cases studies on their use in real disaster situations, it offers a valuable source of information for researchers, engineers and practitioners in safety, security and rescue robotics, disaster robotics, and plant and infrastructure maintenance.
