Topical Collection Information:

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to submit papers to the journal Digital Technologies Research and Applications for a Topical Collection that will be entirely devoted to “Advanced Digital Technology Research On Geo-Energy”.

In the past few decades, with the oil and gas prices fluctuating frequently, unconventional oil and gas resources have attracted the attention of the oil and gas industry, and gradually developing into indispensable energy sources around the world.

Unconventional oil and gas reservoirs require multi-scale and multi-physics research based on characteristics such as thermal conductivity, permeability, mechanical behaviors, chemical reaction, and electrical conductivity to effectively guide production process.

Digital core technology is a decisive technology for modeling real reservoirs and can accurately represent the geometric topological characteristics of the reservoir. Multi-physics simulation and deep learning prediction of reservoirs based on digital core technology have become innovative topics in this field.

This Topical Collection will present the latest advances in this field. With this aim in mind, we are inviting investigators to submit relevant original research articles, case studies, and review articles.

Subject areas include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • The research object is unconventional oil and gas resources: gas hydrate, shale gas, coalbed methane, etc.;
  • New methods to construct digital cores for unconventional oil and gas reservoirs;
  • Characterization of multiscale pore structures in unconventional reservoirs;
  • Evolution of macro- and microstructure of unconventional reservoirs;
  • Multi-scale flow characteristics simulation of unconventional reservoirs;
  • Simulation of mechanical behavior of unconventional reservoirs;
  • Simulation of thermal and electrical conductivity behavior of unconventional reservoirs;
  • Multiphysics coupling: including physical fields such as thermal-hydro- mechanics -chemical-electricity (THMCE) etc.;
  • Machine learning techniques related to unconventional resources development;
  • Mechanical stability of unconventional reservoirs;
  • Recent advances of unconventional reservoirs pore network extraction.

Manuscript Submission Information:

Please visit the Submissions Guidelines page before submitting a manuscript. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Manuscripts should be submitted online through the online manuscript submission and editorial system. Additionally, please include a cover letter specifying that the manuscript is intended for the Topical Collection "Advanced Digital Technology Research on Geo-Energy" when submitting it online. Manuscripts can be submitted until the submission deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal and will be listed together on the Topical Collection website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract can be sent to the Editorial Office dtra@ukscip.com for announcement on this website.

The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 300 USD. Authors who are unable to cover this cost or those who are invited to submit papers may be eligible for discounts or waivers.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process.
