Topical Collection Information:

Dear Colleagues,

Traditional water purification technologies often require significant energy inputs, contributing to high operational costs and environmental impact. With the growing global demand for clean water and the increasing energy costs associated with traditional purification methods, innovative approaches leveraging advanced materials like graphene and other two-dimensional (2D) materials are essential. These materials offer unique properties that can dramatically enhance membrane performance, reduce energy consumption, and improve overall efficiency.

The Topical Collection "Graphene and 2D Materials for Energy-Efficient Water Purification Technologies" seeks to address the critical need for sustainable and energy-efficient solutions in water treatment, providing a platform for researchers to share their findings on these transformative materials and their applications. This Topical Collection will not only highlight groundbreaking research but also provide a comprehensive overview of the current state and future prospects of graphene and 2D materials in creating sustainable, energy-efficient water purification technologies.

A wide array of topics, including but not limited to, are as follows:

  • Synthesis and Characterization of Energy-Efficient Graphene and 2D Materials;
  • Development of Graphene-Based Membranes for Low-Energy Water Purification;
  • Energy Optimization in Graphene-Enhanced Water Treatment Processes;
  • Advanced Fouling and Scaling Control Using 2D Materials;
  • Photothermal Applications of Graphene in Water Purification;
  • Catalytic Water Treatment Technologies Leveraging Graphene;
  • Renewable Energy Integration with Graphene-Enhanced Membrane Systems;
  • Case Studies of Energy-Efficient Graphene Membranes in Real-World Applications;
  • Environmental and Economic Impacts of Graphene-Based Water Purification.

Manuscript Submission Information:

Please visit the Submissions Guidelines page before submitting a manuscript. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Manuscripts should be submitted online through the online manuscript submission and editorial system. Additionally, please include a cover letter specifying that the manuscript is intended for the Topical Collection "Graphene and 2D Materials for Energy-Efficient Water Purification Technologies" when submitting it online. Manuscripts can be submitted until the submission deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal and will be listed together on the Topical Collection website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract can be sent to the Editorial Office neea@ukscip.com for announcement on this website.

The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 300 USD. Authors who are unable to cover this cost or those who are invited to submit papers may be eligible for discounts or waivers.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process.
